Colleges and universities use fundraising (aka fund raising, development, advancement, philanthropy) to solicit and gather voluntary contributions of money or other resources, by requesting donations from individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies. This field encompasses alumni relations, communications, marketing and development for educational institutions such as universities and independent or private schools. Many DevelopmentinHigherEd.com job seekers are members of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Specialties include grant research or pre-production, grant construction, grant reporting, public sector funding, private sector funding, ethics and grant accountability.
