OVERVIEW
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000. DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, performs a variety of complex and highly responsible administrative and program support activities for professional development. This position will coordinate various grants in support of EEO goals. This position requires implementation, development and coordination of appropriate and timely professional development events for management and staff. This position requires coordination with and provides assistance for the Faculty Excellence Committee. This individual will assist with the design, planning and implementation of various programs to address institutional, departmental and personal training needs. It will provide support for training as assigned.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 20 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes goals and objectives to align with system-wide goals on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Establishes goals and objectives to align with institutional goals.
  • Prepares and submits related reports especially as required by grant requirements.
  • Designs and develops programs throughout the year to meet annual objectives.
  • Designs and/or provides input on professional development workshops to increase knowledge and understanding of diversity.
  • Provides professional support for staff to build capacity through mentoring, leadership opportunities, and professional development with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Assists in preparing the annual EEO certification to the California Community College Chancellor's Office as required.
  • Chairs the Professional Development Committee, coordinates and facilitates employee training programs that are in compliance with the provisions of the classified collective bargaining agreement.
  • Assists the Faculty Excellence Committee and Office of Instruction with the implementation of the mandatory flex day.
  • Recommends professional trainers and/or internal faculty and staff to conduct training and workshops.
  • Designs and conducts an annual needs assessment for faculty, classified and management groups.
  • Works with the Office of Research to understand professional development opportunities suggested by various research reports on student learning needs and achievement gaps.
  • Coordinates promotion of professional development opportunities.
  • Develops processes and procedures as needed to coordinate the employee development function, including development of contracts, forms, grant applications, awards, and other materials.
  • Coordinates and schedules program activities including conference rooms and equipment.
  • Designs and completes certificates of completion and professional development event evaluations.
  • Develops and monitors an assigned budget; prepares year-end expenditure and activities report for assigned finds.
  • Communicates with vendors regarding training materials and resources; reviews training materials and suggests materials for purchase.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.

Experience/Education

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Communication, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
Experience Preferred:
  • Three years of experience in developing professional development programs and staff training activities.
Experience Required:
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.

New Administrative Appointments will be placed at the step 1 on the Administrative Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st of the following year if they have rendered 6 months of satisfactory service, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
