Note: This position is funded through the Community Education Grant. Funding is contingent upon the terms of the grant and this position is currently funded through 6/30/2025.

Under general supervision of the Executive Dean, Academic Strategy and Innovation or designee, this position works with students, faculty, and staff in the ELL Programs in the English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Language Leaners (ELL) programs and also collaborates with ESL/ELL team members in coordinating academic and tutorial support as well as participate in related activities such as recruitment and retention. Work requires judgment, analysis, and decision-making according to established practices and procedures. Supervision received is general in nature and daily responsibilities are completed independently in coordination with the faculty, staff, and grant coordinator.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provides course placement, monitor grade level gains, case management for referrals to ELL/ESL programs; transitions student to post-secondary program, and/or referral for job placement; conducts data collection and entry into the Online Client Report System; facilitates and administers TABE testing.
  • Provides information about services available to ESL/ELL students at MATC; collaborates with admissions, counselors and other professional personnel to monitor referrals and progress.
  • Advises ELL/ESL students on enrollment and program requirements; helps with financial aid applications; admissions and program registration. Informs students about program course availability, program changes, admissions, and registration. Coordinates activities to transition to Post Secondary programs and career readiness.
  • Advises ELL/ESL students with class selection; assesses test scores, reviews transcript and program plan, provides entry options, curriculum, academic and performance preparation.
  • Provides individual student academic case management to support grade progression, registration, and academic service referrals to support course completion and graduation.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports as required including monitoring student attendance and student contact.
  • Collaborates and supports assigned community-based organizations (CBOs). Support may include but are not limited to assisting students with registration and program availability, providing orientation to new staff/faculty to grant guidelines and requirements, and ensuring organizations are adhering to guidelines.
  • Coordinates tutoring and/or instructional support and distributes resource information for students enrolled in Basic Skills (Adult Education) at CBO sites based on class assignments and/or instructor's recommendations.
  • Compiles, collects, submits, and presents center progress reports to administration through meetings and data generated reports. Complete reporting to meet grant requirements.
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service, including face-to-face, telephone, electronic, and print transactions.
  • Establishes, collaborates and maintains working relationships with students, faculty, administrative leadership and staff.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, seminars, and other professional activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with an emphasis in Higher Education, Education Administration, major course work in Adult Education or Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
  • At least three (3) total years of relevant experience*

Preferred Education/Experience in addition to the minimum requirements listed above:
  • Bilingual fluency; able to read, write, and speak in two languages is highly desirable
  • Master's degree or higher in Higher Education, Education Administration, major course work in Adult Education or Curriculum and Instruction or related field AND five (5) or more years of relevant experience*

*Relevant experience includes previous work in a (community based organization, high school or higher education) student facing position which directly provides support services which assist students achieve academic success.

Supplemental Information


Start Date: This position supports the Community Education Division and is available to start as soon as possible. This is an ELL Grant Funded positions with current funding through June 30th, 2025.

Hours/Location: This position is a 1.0 FTE or 38.75 hours per work week year round position. Hours will be primarily first shift with some required evenings and weekends as needed. Position will be based out of our Milwaukee downtown campus location with the ability to assist other campuses as needed.
Salary: Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2024/2025 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
