Job Summary

To help plan and execute coordinated development and community outreach strategies to increase private financial support through annual and major gift fund-raising while elevating awareness of SCF and SCF Foundation. Direct and implement a broad-based outreach program to enhance relationships, referrals, and giving among Alumni, sponsors, businesses, volunteers, individuals and other potential community stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:

  1. Working with the Executive Director and the Foundation Board, strategically designs, organizes and implements short-and long-term fund development and community outreach plans to increase revenues and referrals to support the strategic direction of the College, to include Communications plan, Development plan, and Community Outreach plan.
  2. Personally cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of mid-level through major gift prospects/donors. This includes developing SCFF donor/prospective donor/corporate sponsor relationships and attending community, chamber, economic development, alumni, and other non-profit events in region as directed by Executive Director.
  3. Implements the annual giving program and related major gift fundraising activities to develop a strong base for the individual and corporate giving pyramid. Implements and manages the entire scope of the Foundation's annual giving program.
  4. Oversees the identification, recruitment, training, and recognition of volunteers for College and Foundation.
  5. Supervises the State College of Florida Foundation, advancement and community outreach staff members, and processes. .
  6. Monitors and evaluates all fundraising and community outreach activities to ensure goals are achieved. Uses program data and industry benchmarks and practices. Utilizes results of evaluation to refine existing programs and to recommend and implement new and creative programs or methods to maximize revenues and participation and to identify high-capacity donors, share SCF employment openings, increase student enrollment referrals, and enroll individuals in College & Foundation volunteer opportunities.
  7. Trains and supervises SCF Foundation staff member(s) reporting to Director, Advancement, to ensure professional growth, delegation, empowerment, and appropriate recognition.
  8. Recommends and manages annual operating, fundraising, and community outreach budgets, variance analysis, and revenue forecasts, and calendars for development, community outreach, and fundraising events.
  9. Develops fundraising analysis and forecasting reports for the Executive Director to facilitate the foundation's mission, submitting an annual Development and Community Outreach Plans for approval by the Board of Directors and monthly development and community outreach reports to the Board as appropriate.
  10. Serves as staff liaison to Foundation development (fundraising) committees providing leadership and direction for individual and corporate sponsor prospects. Creates, implements prospect, database and upgrade strategies to stabilize and grow donor base. In addition, to utilize software tools available for researching prospective donor(s) or corporate sponsor(s), and management of volunteers. Works with the Coordinator, Constituent Database, to mark prospects and conduct prospect review on a quarterly basis with the Executive Director.
  11. Works with the Executive Director and appropriate staff on all aspects of community outreach including web, newsletters, alumni magazine, annual report, and other local media outlets.
  12. Works with the Executive Director to develop funding priorities through the Development and Community Outreach Plans.
  13. Ensure database for community contacts tracks communications and follow up activities and develop internal systems to support the collection and reporting of data and outcomes related to fundraising and outreach. In doing so, this role will be expected to report out on fundraising, sponsorships, and outreach effectiveness and/or opportunities for improvement.
  14. Actively participates in staff meetings and assists other staff members in the accomplishment of Departmental goals.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of the SCF Foundation.


Job Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and five years of increasingly responsible fundraising experience with demonstrated record of designing campaigns (annual and major gifts) financial/sales success, and securing gifts, preferably in a college, university, non-profit organization, and/or foundation environment.
  • Supervisory Experience:

One to two years of direct supervisory experience, including responsibility for hiring, firing, performance management, training and coaching is required.
  • Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to technical questions and/or complaints from College, leadership, prospective donors, donors, board members, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.
  • Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.
  • Computer Skills:

Proficiency in the use of a computer for fundraising software (Raiser's Edge preferred), word processing, databases, EXCEL spreadsheets, e-mail and internet.
  • Certificates and Licenses:

The job requires the employee to be bondable.

A valid Florida driver's license.

Responsibility for People and Property:

This position is responsible for the security of all confidential benefactor and prospect information, as well as honoring SCFF's donor bill of rights.

Provides direct supervision to staff assigned to this position.

Responsibility for Communication:
  • Internal Contacts:

This position has routine contact with College administrators, department heads, and students.
  • External Contacts:

This position has frequent contact with benefactors, prospective donors, corporate & community sponsors, volunteers, including the Foundation's Board of Directors, and vendors.
