Position Description
The Grant Management Specialist in CHHS works on a collaborative team to operationalize the strategic direction of the College. Reporting to the CHHS Finance and Grants Manager, this position will provide support to the Dean's Office (to include the Grants Office) to develop grants management systems and procedures. The Grant Management Specialist will be assigned to specific grants to provide direct support and those grants may be in the Day Health Institute, a CHHS Academic Department, the Dean's Office, or a combination. This position will work with the Office of the Controller and the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs to ensure compliance with funding agencies as well as the University's accounting standards.
The Grant Management Specialist will work collaboratively with faculty and staff across the college, the CHHS Grants office, the Dean's office, the Day Health Institute, CHHS Academic Departments, the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs, the Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance Office, and the University Advancement office to ensure the smooth management of grants within the College of Health and Human Sciences.
Responsibilities
Grants Accounting - 70%
The primary responsibility of the Grant Management Specialist is to provide direct accounting support to a portfolio of grants, as assigned by the Dean's Office. The Specialist will have in depth involvement on these projects, but will also provide broad accounting support to all CHHS grants.
- Directly manage the financial aspect of a portfolio of grants (to include within the Day Health Institute, CHHS Academic Departments, and others) and as identified by the Dean's Office based on funding and priority
- Meet with Principal Investigators to gain thorough understanding of program goals and budget
- Support project personnel during proposal development and after award to ensure their understanding and delivery of proper grant management
- Provide oversight, review of, and support to staff for grant disbursements to ensure conformity with all appropriate regulations, rules, and policies
- Keep apprised of and abide by university policies and procedures
- Reconcile and prepare required financial reports for grants
- Develop and maintain positive relations and communications with funding agencies, colleagues, and other internal constituents
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
Strategic Leadership - 20%
- Help build, bolster, and monitor policies, practices, and systems that support grant activities across the college
- Identify areas for development that would create better supports for grant personnel
- Collaborate with the CHHS Dean's office, CHHS Grants office, the Day Health Institute, CHHS academic departments, and units across the university in the furtherance of continual improvement of systems and structures that support efficiencies and effectiveness of grant activities across the university
Other Duties as Assigned - 10%
- Embrace flexibility to take on related tasks and responsibilities as grants team's needs change
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of full-time professional experience in a job that included accounting and/or budget management work
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
- Experience managing the fiscal requirements of grants
- Experience working with financial management CRM, preferably Workday
- Demonstrated proficiency in Excel
- Demonstrated ability to develop required financial reports for grants
- Experience working in a higher education setting
Schedule Information
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Exempt
- Days of the Week: Mon - Fri
- Evenings and Weekend Work: on occasion
- Schedule: This is a hybrid position designed to support flexibility with both in office work, as well as some remote schedules subject to supervisor approval
- Travel: None expected
Salary for Announcement
Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
This position is subject to grant funding availability. The anticipated hiring range that the University reasonable expects to pay for this position is $58,000 - $64,000.
This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
